Gouche, gold & Silver leaf

An icon is an aid to prayer, not the object of prayer. We tend to think almost exclusively in images. Pictures and words are symbolic representations that help us connect with physical or spiritual reality; they’re not the realities to which they point. Why, then, are verbal images so much more worthy than pictorial form of bearing divine presence? Icons deliver a story conveyed through color and line rather than through letters and words.
Historically, a number of materials were used to create icons. Encaustics comes from the earliest centuries of Christianity and egg tempura is most common amongst iconographer purists. Gouche offers more flexibility, ease of handling and is an acceptable medium for iconography.
Commissioned work of icons & religious architecture may be produced from your favorite subject. Simply email a photo of your preference. Your icon is prayerfully written for you.
